Combining scholarly conversations and collective actions, the Summer School on Anti-Racism, Social Justice and the European City (ARJEC) is an independent, collaborative platform bringing together postgraduate students, activists and scholars.
Across one intensive week, participants will engage each morning with advanced seminars in urban studies, critical race approaches and decolonial theory. Afternoons are dedicated to collaborative project work in small groups, learning from and contributing to local grassroots campaigns.

Following the global Black Lives Matter mobilisations in the summer of 2020, critical debates have burgeoned worldwide about how race and racism shape urban spaces. This is as evident in police action as it is in certain street names, monuments, and other kinds of urban resonances of colonialism and the global history of race.
European cities are at the very core of these global legacies, which are all too often overlooked across the continent. The Summer School aims to critically interrogate 21st-century colonial urban residues and racial structures through steered, scholarly discussions and small-group projects led and supervised by local anti-racist activists.
